August in Sydney is known for its winds and this year it got off to an early start. Strong winds hit the local area on Friday 1st August. OK writing about a toilet door doesn't sound exciting but that is where most of the work happened yesterday. StateRail has begun the immense task of sorting out their Heritage Collection. Items that are not considered part of the core collection are being distributed to various Rail Heritage groups. We were invited to tender for some items and were successful in obtaining a number of them. We had to collect them from the Heritage store on Sunday.As there were a few large items, desks and cabinets etc.

TRAK has been given a number of items that are considered excess to the SRA Heritage collection. Several other rail groups have also obtained items. Work continued on the window sill yesterday. We have progressed to the 1st Class end of the car. Half the windows in that section were removed and repairs to the sill were carried out. Last night's storm dumped nearly 100mm on Richmond and surrounding areas. The Carriage Site didn't escape. I visited this afternoon and there was a considerable amount of water lying around. A marathon effort by our crew today saw the track for CBA 547 completed. Once again we turned up to work on 547 but first there were a few other jobs that needed our attention. I have previously said how dangerous the steps were getting so that was our number 1 priority. Today work continued on 547. Stephen and Ben stripped the paint from a few more panels and sanded some of the panels already stripped. They found it went much quicker working as a team. This picture was taken a couple of workdays ago. It shows the latest and so far most successful method of removing the paint on the mouldings of 547. Stephen is using a lpg torch and scraper.
